Quick! Cheap DYI Costumes- Crow meets Scarecrows

Scarecrows and a Crow

A few years back in Manhattan a group of us went as scarecrows and a crow.  With a little raffia or a boa from your local craft store and items in your closet you will have these costumes done before you can say, “trick or treat!”

Boy or Girl Scarecrow

  • Straw hat- from that sunny vacation!
  • T-shirt
  • Jeans
  • Flannel
  • Leaves

After you have your costume on add strings of raffia threw your button holes and pant loops tying to stay in place.  Place in hair by braiding it in with your own hair or tying it to bobby pins and adding it to hair.  Leaves can be hot glued to string and then tied to various parts of the costume for that autumnal feel.  Don a straw hat and perhaps a flower to your label for good measure!

Girl crow

  • That little black dress in your closet
  • Two pair of tights one to wear  and one that you can rip
  • Shoes
  • Black feather boa

Take second pair of tights and cut out the seat and the feet pulling them over your head to create a “shirt”.  Pull on other pair of tights and dress, then carefully tack the feather boa in several places along the sleeves of the “shirt” you made out of the tights creating wings.  Hot glue a few of the feathers from the boa to bobby pins and place in hair.  Then have fun with your makeup creating some fierce smokey eyes adding feathered eyelashes for a real va va voom look!
